Mobile internet, 4G and 5G in Aruba

Aruba has two mobile operators: SETAR, the state telecoms company, and Digicel Aruba. SETAR puts its LTE network in the window and sells handsets alongside it; Digicel names no network technology at all on its consumer page. 5G appears on neither site, not even on SETAR's visitor pages, so plan around 4G as your working baseline. The regulator, the Directie Telecommunicatie Zaken, manages spectrum and national telecoms policy but publishes no operator list, no coverage map and no 4G or 5G figures — coverage detail by area simply does not exist in public.

Roaming in Aruba without an eSIM: your Dutch bundle does not apply

This is the miscalculation Aruba travellers make most often. Aruba is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands but not part of the EU, and all three Dutch operators treat it as foreign. KPN publishes an alphabetical list of countries where domestic rates apply: it runs from Andorra to Switzerland, takes in Gibraltar, the Faroes, Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man plus the Azores, the Canaries and Madeira — and Aruba is not on it. Odido, in its own instructions, uses 'PRIJS ARUBA' as its example of a destination outside the EU. Vodafone's network overview for EU and overseas territories does not list Aruba either.

The local operators sell an Aruba eSIM too

Let us be straight: you are not stuck once you land. SETAR runs a separate visitor store with an eSIM in 3-, 7- and 14-day unlimited-data bundles, and a kiosk in the arrivals hall at Reina Beatrix Airport. Digicel sells a tourist eSIM covering Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao together — for anyone combining islands that is a better-shaped product than ours. So we do not win on availability. We win on when you buy: sorted from home before departure, in euros, in your own language, with the price visible before you book.

Frequently asked questions

Does my Dutch bundle work in Aruba?+

No. Aruba is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, but it is not in the EU — and Dutch providers treat it that way. KPN's list of countries where your domestic rates apply runs from Andorra to Switzerland and does not include Aruba; Odido uses Aruba as its own example of a destination outside the EU; Vodafone's EU and overseas-territories network overview does not list it either.

Is there 5G in Aruba?+

What the operators advertise is 4G. SETAR puts its LTE network in the window and Digicel Aruba names no network technology at all on its consumer page; 5G appears at neither. So plan for 4G. That is what is advertised — not an independent measurement, and not a statement from the regulator.

Which mobile networks are there in Aruba?+

Two: SETAR, the state telecoms company, and Digicel Aruba. Both sell mobile service to residents and visitors. The regulator, the Directie Telecommunicatie Zaken, manages spectrum but publishes no operator list and no coverage data, so there are no figures by district or coastline anywhere — including here.

Can I also buy an eSIM once I am in Aruba?+

Yes, and we are not hiding it. SETAR runs a visitor store selling an eSIM in 3-, 7- and 14-day unlimited-data bundles, plus a kiosk in the arrivals hall at Reina Beatrix Airport. Digicel sells a tourist eSIM covering Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao together — for an island-hopping trip that is a strong offer. Our difference is when you buy: from home before you leave, in euros, in your own language.

Does my phone support eSIM?+

Most recent smartphones (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel) support eSIM. Check your settings for an 'Add eSIM' option.

When should I activate my Aruba eSIM?+

Install the eSIM before departure over wifi, but only enable data roaming once you arrive in Aruba, so your plan starts at the right time.

How do I receive my eSIM?+

Right after payment you receive the QR code by email and in your Ariya Mobile account. Remember to check your spam folder.

Can I top up my plan?+

Yes, simply buy a new Aruba eSIM plan when your data or validity runs out.
