Mobile internet, 4G and 5G in Bahrain
Less is public about Bahrain than you would expect for a country of its size. We could confirm two mobile operators — Batelco and stc Bahrain — so we publish no total number of networks. From the regulator we saw no licensee list, no spectrum award and no coverage figure.
What we can say: Batelco sells 5G and pairs it with an interactive map for checking availability in your area. No percentage and no country-wide claim comes with it, and we will not invent one. At stc Bahrain, 5G appears only in home-internet product names; that is not evidence of mobile 5G, so we do not use it as such. On national 4G coverage we found no source at all.
Roaming in Bahrain without an eSIM
Bahrain is outside the EU and the EEA, so 'Roam Like at Home' does not apply. That arrangement covers the EU member states plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, along with Moldova and Ukraine, and Bahrain is not among them. Your operator therefore bills Bahraini data at its own out-of-bundle roaming tariff, without the EU price caps that apply inside the zone. The European Commission advises asking your own provider for that tariff before you leave.

Here we have to be straight about the competition. stc Bahrain sells a Visitor Plan as an eSIM with the promise 'get your eSIM wherever you are, activate it as soon as you enter Bahrain', and that plan covers Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Oman as well as Bahrain. For anyone combining several Gulf states, that is a well-shaped product. We are not going to pretend it does not exist.
The friction is in the activation: stc itself describes a step that matches your face against an identity document, and does not say which documents are accepted. Our difference is the timing and the clarity: you buy from home before departure, pay in euros, read everything in your own language and see the price before you book. Your own SIM card stays active alongside it for texts and bank codes on your usual number.
