Mobile internet, 4G and 5G in Curaçao
Curaçao has three mobile concession holders, named directly by regulator RAC (Regulatory Authority of Curaçao, successor to the Bureau Telecommunicatie en Post): Antelecom N.V., trading as UTS/Chippie, Curaçao Telecom N.V., trading as Digicel, and TerraMobile B.V., the newest entrant, which launched in 2023. UTS/Chippie's own tourist page advertises island-wide LTE coverage, and Digicel's own eSIM page also names an LTE plan. TerraMobile's own site was still too thin at the time of research to support a technology claim. None of the three mentions a 5G launch, spectrum award or date, and the regulator does not publish one either — plan for 4G as your working baseline.
Your Belgian or Dutch bundle in Curaçao
Curaçao is a separate country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, but not EU territory, and that is exactly how the four major operators treat it. KPN's alphabetical list of domestic-rate countries does not mention Curaçao, and Vodafone NL's network overview for the EU and overseas territories leaves it out too. The Belgian picture is the same, but under each operator's own name: Proximus places Curaçao, alongside Bonaire and Sint Maarten, in its 'Zone B' — a middle tier, not its cheapest non-EU level. Orange Belgium lists it under its 'World Plus Pass', as 'Curaçao – Bonaire'. None of the four bills Curaçao at domestic or EU rates.
eSIM and registration in Curaçao
The strongest traveller fact here comes not from marketing copy but from Digicel's own checkout flow: buying the tourist eSIM requires an ID card or passport for verification. UTS/Chippie states no comparable requirement on its own page. Digicel's eSIM is not limited to Curaçao alone either — the same eSIM also works in Aruba and Bonaire, in 7- or 14-day data bundles, which is useful for anyone combining islands, though buying it from home, ahead of time and in your own language remains the point where a pre-arranged eSIM stands apart.
Frequently asked questions
Does my Belgian or Dutch bundle work in Curaçao?+
No. Curaçao is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, but not EU territory, and the operators treat it exactly that way. KPN's list of countries with domestic rates does not mention it, and Vodafone NL's EU and overseas-territories network overview leaves it out too. Proximus places Curaçao in its 'Zone B'; Orange Belgium lists it under its 'World Plus Pass', as 'Curaçao – Bonaire'. Your bundle does not automatically follow you there.
Is there 5G in Curaçao?+
No operator confirms it. UTS/Chippie and Digicel both advertise 4G/LTE on their own sites; no 5G launch date, spectrum award or announcement appears anywhere. Plan for 4G.
Which mobile operators are there in Curaçao?+
Regulator RAC names three mobile concession holders: Antelecom N.V. (brand UTS/Chippie), Curaçao Telecom N.V. (brand Digicel), and TerraMobile B.V., the newest entrant, which launched in 2023.
Can I also buy an eSIM once I'm in Curaçao?+
Yes. Digicel sells a tourist eSIM covering Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao together, in 7- or 14-day bundles. At checkout, Digicel's own purchase flow asks for an ID card or passport for verification — a requirement UTS/Chippie does not mention on its own page.
Does my phone support eSIM?+
Most recent smartphones (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel) support eSIM. Check your settings for an 'Add eSIM' option.
When should I activate my Curaçao eSIM?+
Install the eSIM before departure over wifi, but only enable data roaming once you arrive in Curaçao, so your plan starts at the right time.
How do I receive my eSIM?+
Right after payment you receive the QR code by email and in your Ariya Mobile account. Remember to check your spam folder.
Can I top up my plan?+
Yes, simply buy a new Curaçao eSIM plan when your data or validity runs out.
