Mobile networks in Fiji

Fiji's telecom regulator is the Telecommunications Authority of Fiji (TAF); its own site did not yield an extractable, dated list of licensed mobile operators this round. Two mobile operators are independently confirmed via their own current sites: Vodafone Fiji and Digicel Fiji, now served from the unified Digicel Pacific platform. One name that does not count: Telecom Fiji Limited (TFL) markets '4G+, 5G wireless' home-broadband plans, but TFL is Vodafone Fiji's own sister company — both sit under Amalgamated Telecom Holdings (ATH), which states on its own site that it owns and operates Telecom Fiji Limited, Vodafone Fiji and Fiji Directories Limited itself. TFL's product reads as fixed wireless home broadband, not a third mobile network a traveller's eSIM would use. Beyond the main towns, a coverage programme also runs for remote communities: TAF's own media-release listing names a 'fourth' Universal Service Obligation contract with Vodafone Fiji covering 30 communities in Kadavu Province, with no date or technology stated.

4G and 5G in Fiji

Vodafone Fiji and Digicel Fiji both launched 5G in September 2025 — trade press dated it to 15 September 2025 — and Digicel Fiji's own promo page is unusually candid: '3G and 4G will still be in use and are not disappearing anytime soon' and '5G won't be for everyone'. The same page states 5G 'powers up parts of Suva, Nadi, Lautoka', with further expansion 'still in planning phase'. Vodafone Fiji's own coverage-map page lists 5G by neighbourhood rather than by town, and most entries carry a '(parts)' qualifier — named areas include Suva CBD, Toorak and Vatuwaqa around Suva; Nadi Town, Denarau and Namaka (parts) around Nadi; and Kashmir (parts) and Natabua (parts) around Lautoka. A year later, in August 2026, Vodafone Fiji's own CTO told FBC News that the 5G rollout continues, but that 'the cost to take on 5G is very expensive as well, and there is a dependence on a lot of utility partners in getting the power ready', confirming the company is still upgrading some areas from 2G or 3G to 4G. Plan on 4G outside the main towns, with 5G as a bonus in the named neighbourhoods of Suva, Nadi and Lautoka.

Your Belgian or Dutch bundle and the eSIM in Fiji

Fiji is outside the EU roaming zone: it is not an EU or EEA member state, nor Moldova or Ukraine, so the EU price caps do not apply and your operator bills Fijian data at its own out-of-bundle rate. Anyone who still wants a local SIM on arrival faces different rules at the two operators: Vodafone Fiji's own Tourist SIM page states that 'Acceptable ID for registration is valid physical Passport', and the product is sold at the Vodafone Nadi Airport Outlet. Digicel Fiji's own Tourist SIM Plans page lists three tiers — Traveler 25, Traveler 50 and Traveler 70, each with its own data allowance and a validity of 7, 15 or 30 days — sold 'from our Nadi Airport Store or from any other Digicel Retail outlet', though its page states no ID requirement. A pre-bought eSIM skips that airport-counter step on arrival in Nadi.

Frequently asked questions

Does my Belgian or Dutch bundle work in Fiji?+

No. Fiji is outside the EU roaming zone: it is not an EU or EEA member state, nor Moldova or Ukraine, so the EU price caps do not apply there. Your bundle only works in Fiji at your own operator's out-of-bundle rate.

Is there 5G in Fiji?+

Only in parts of three towns so far. Vodafone Fiji and Digicel Fiji both launched 5G in September 2025, in named neighbourhoods of Suva, Nadi and Lautoka. Both operators' own pages say 3G and 4G keep running alongside it, and Vodafone Fiji's own CTO said in August 2026 that some areas are still being upgraded from 2G or 3G to 4G. Plan on 4G almost everywhere, with 5G as a bonus in those three towns.

Which mobile networks exist in Fiji?+

Two: Vodafone Fiji and Digicel Fiji, both confirmed via their own current sites. Telecom Fiji Limited (TFL) is not a third mobile competitor — it is Vodafone Fiji's own sister company under Amalgamated Telecom Holdings, and its '5G wireless' product is fixed home broadband, not a mobile network.

Do I need a passport for a tourist SIM in Fiji?+

At Vodafone Fiji, yes: its own Tourist SIM page requires a valid physical passport, and the product is sold at the Vodafone Nadi Airport Outlet. Digicel Fiji's own Tourist SIM Plans page states no ID requirement either way, so that is unconfirmed, not confirmed as passport-free.

Does my phone support eSIM?+

Most recent smartphones (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel) support eSIM. Check your settings for an 'Add eSIM' option.

When should I activate my Fiji eSIM?+

Install the eSIM before departure over wifi, but only enable data roaming once you arrive in Fiji, so your plan starts at the right time.

How do I receive my eSIM?+

Right after payment you receive the QR code by email and in your Ariya Mobile account. Remember to check your spam folder.

Can I top up my plan?+

Yes, simply buy a new Fiji eSIM plan when your data or validity runs out.
