Mobile internet in Georgia: market and usage

Georgia has three mobile operators. Per regulator ComCom's own figures, cited by Georgia Today for the January–July 2025 period, Magti (MagtiCom) holds a 40.7% market share with 2.39 million subscribers, Silknet (formerly Geocell, now merged into Silknet) 35.8% with just over 2.09 million subscribers, and Celfie Mobile (formerly Beeline Georgia) 23.2% with 1.36 million subscribers.

Over that same period ComCom counted nearly 5.87 million active mobile subscribers in total, up 191,000 on 2024. Of those, 4.34 million (73.9%) use mobile internet monthly, and average data use per subscriber climbed to 17.2 GB a month, up 2.3 GB on a year earlier — a market still growing both in size and in data appetite.

5G in Georgia: launched, coverage not quantified

5G has existed in Georgia since October 2024, when Magti became the first operator to launch its network, on the 700 MHz, 2600 MHz and 3400–3700 MHz bands. No quantified coverage percentage has been published for it: MagtiCom's own 5G page makes only an unquantified general claim, 'the largest 5G coverage in Georgia', with no percentage, city list or area figure. We do not repeat that kind of unquantified superlative. No source we were able to consult publishes a national 4G or 5G coverage percentage, so we quote none — for certainty about coverage at a specific spot, checking locally remains the safest approach. The regulator's full name is the Communications Commission of Georgia (ComCom), also known as the GNCC; its own regulation and legal-acts pages were checked directly for this article and did not surface a usable coverage figure or a clear SIM-registration rule either.

Roaming in Georgia without an eSIM

Georgia is outside the EU and the EEA, so 'Roam Like at Home' does not apply. That arrangement covers the EU member states plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, and, since 1 January 2026, Moldova and Ukraine; Georgia is not among them. Your Belgian or Dutch bundle therefore stays behind: your operator bills every megabyte at its own out-of-bundle roaming tariff, without the EU price caps that apply inside the zone. The European Commission advises checking that tariff with your provider before you go.

Frequently asked questions

Which mobile networks operate in Georgia?+

Georgia has three operators. Per regulator ComCom's own figures, cited by Georgia Today for the January–July 2025 period, Magti (MagtiCom) holds a 40.7% market share with 2.39 million subscribers, Silknet (formerly Geocell) 35.8% with just over 2.09 million subscribers, and Celfie Mobile (formerly Beeline Georgia) 23.2% with 1.36 million subscribers. The Ariya eSIM connects to a local network — there is no operator for you to choose.

Is there 5G in Georgia?+

Yes, since October 2024: Magti launched its 5G network on the 700 MHz, 2600 MHz and 3400–3700 MHz bands. No source, including MagtiCom itself, publishes a quantified coverage percentage — for population or territory — so we quote none.

Does my Belgian or Dutch plan work in Georgia?+

No. Georgia sits outside the EU and EEA 'Roam Like at Home' area, so your domestic bundle does not travel with you. Your operator bills Georgian data at its own out-of-bundle roaming tariff, without the EU price caps. Ask what that costs before you fly — the European Commission gives travellers the same advice.

How much mobile data do people in Georgia use?+

Quite a lot, and growing. For the same period, ComCom counted nearly 5.87 million active mobile subscribers — 191,000 more than in 2024 — of whom 4.34 million (73.9%) use mobile internet monthly. Average monthly data use per subscriber climbed to 17.2 GB, up 2.3 GB on a year earlier.

Does my phone support eSIM?+

Most recent smartphones (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel) support eSIM. Check your settings for an 'Add eSIM' option.

When should I activate my Georgia eSIM?+

Install the eSIM before departure over wifi, but only enable data roaming once you arrive in Georgia, so your plan starts at the right time.

How do I receive my eSIM?+

Right after payment you receive the QR code by email and in your Ariya Mobile account. Remember to check your spam folder.

Can I top up my plan?+

Yes, simply buy a new Georgia eSIM plan when your data or validity runs out.
