Who is this Greece eSIM for?

If you travel on a Belgian or Dutch SIM card, Greece falls under the European roaming rules and your own plan simply works there. This eSIM is for travellers outside that system: family and visitors on a SIM card from Morocco, Turkey, the United Kingdom or North America, who pay their home operator's full international rate. For them there is a practical hurdle on arrival too — buying a Greek prepaid SIM means producing identification at the point of sale. Long stays, such as spending a winter in Greece, are the second case.

Mobile internet, 4G and 5G in Greece

Greece carries a reputation for a patchy mobile network the moment you leave the mainland. The European Commission says the opposite: 5G there is 'equally well deployed across the country'. In 2025 it covered 99.52% of households and 99.12% in sparsely populated areas, well above the EU average of 88.88% for those areas. On the 3.4–3.8 GHz band Greece is also above the EU average at 80.23%, and in sparsely populated areas that band grew 57.2% in a single year to 64.48%. Greece's genuine coverage gap is in fixed broadband, not mobile.

Your Belgian or Dutch plan in Greece

Greece sits inside the European roaming area, so your plan works there at your domestic rate — for calls, texts and data. Two qualifications come with that.

The first is the fair-use limit: on a very cheap or unlimited plan, your operator may cap your data use abroad, and that cap is tied to what you pay each month. They must tell you about it in advance and alert you once you reach it. The second applies if you stay a long time: the rules protect periodic travel. Only if, over at least four months, you both spend more time outside your own country than in it and use more abroad than domestically may your operator apply a surcharge — and then only after a warning and at least two weeks to adjust your usage pattern.
