Who is this Poland eSIM for?
Poland sits inside the European roaming area: with a Belgian or Dutch SIM card your plan simply works there. This eSIM is for travellers outside that system — visitors on a SIM card from Ukraine, Belarus, Turkey, the United Kingdom or North America — who pay their home operator's full international roaming rate. The local hurdle matters for them too: Poland has registered prepaid SIM cards to a named holder since the 2016 anti-terrorism law, and which document a foreigner must present is not publicly set out. The second group is long stayers: working or studying in Poland falls outside what the European arrangement covers.
Mobile internet, 4G and 5G in Poland
Poland is one of the few EU countries that stays below the EU average on every 5G measure. In 2025, 5G reached 94.01% of households against 96.79% across the EU, 84.33% in sparsely populated areas against 88.88%, and 69.12% on the fast 3.4–3.8 GHz band against 74.75%. The European Commission calls this 'mixed progress' and recommends that Poland reduce the gaps between towns and countryside.
The direction matters just as much: rural coverage climbed from 72.35% to 84.33% in a single year, growing faster than the EU average. In practice that means 5G in Warszawa, Kraków and the other big cities, and more often a 4G connection outside urban areas. All four networks — Play, Plus, Orange Polska and T-Mobile Polska — are still building out.
Your Belgian or Dutch plan in Poland
Poland is in the EU, so 'Roam Like at Home' applies: calls, texts and data come out of your own plan at your domestic rate. Two exceptions are set out in the European rules.
The first is the fair-use limit on data. On a very cheap or unlimited plan your operator may cap what you use abroad; that cap follows what you pay each month, and they must tell you in advance and alert you once you reach it. The second covers long stays: over at least four months your operator may check whether you spend more time outside your own country than in it and use more abroad than domestically. Only once both are true, and after a warning with at least two weeks to change your pattern, may a surcharge be applied.
Frequently asked questions
Does my Belgian or Dutch plan work in Poland?+
Yes. Poland is an EU member state, so you use your own plan at your domestic rate. The two things to watch are the fair-use data limit on very cheap or unlimited plans and the rules that apply if you stay in Poland for months at a time.
Is there 5G in Poland?+
Yes, though less widely than the EU average. According to the European Commission, 5G reached 94.01% of Polish households in 2025, below the EU average of 96.79%, and 84.33% in sparsely populated areas against 88.88% across the EU. It is catching up fast: rural coverage rose from 72.35% to 84.33% in a single year.
Which networks does the eSIM use in Poland?+
Poland has four mobile networks: Play, Plus, Orange Polska and T-Mobile Polska. The eSIM connects to those local networks for 4G/5G internet in cities such as Warszawa, Kraków and Gdańsk and across the rest of the country.
Do I need to register for a Polish prepaid SIM?+
Yes. Since Poland's June 2016 anti-terrorism law, prepaid SIM cards must be registered to a named holder; cards already in circulation had to be registered before February 2017 or be blocked. Exactly which document a foreign visitor must present is not publicly set out — check with the seller. An eSIM is arranged online before departure.
Does my phone support eSIM?+
Most recent smartphones (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel) support eSIM. Check your settings for an 'Add eSIM' option.
When should I activate my Poland eSIM?+
Install the eSIM before departure over wifi, but only enable data roaming once you arrive in Poland, so your plan starts at the right time.
How do I receive my eSIM?+
Right after payment you receive the QR code by email and in your Ariya Mobile account. Remember to check your spam folder.
Can I top up my plan?+
Yes, simply buy a new Poland eSIM plan when your data or validity runs out.
