Saudi Arabia has three mobile operators — STC, Mobily and Zain — which between them hold roughly 99% of the market. 5G has been commercially available since 2019: STC started in June that year in Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah, Madinah and Dammam, Mobily followed in late 2019 and Zain in October 2019. In the major cities the network is now widely deployed, and where 5G is missing your phone falls back to 4G.
The build-out continues: in November 2024 the Saudi regulator CST auctioned further spectrum in the 3.8–4.0 GHz band, specifically for standalone 5G networks. For a trip to Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah, Madinah or Dammam, 5G is not a promise for later — it has been in place for years.
Arriving for Umrah, Hajj or a family visit
